About Preston Taylor

Hello, my name is Preston Taylor. I’m originally from Tucson, Arizona. Spending most of my life in the desert, I moved to New York City in the summer of 2017.

Drawing as well as creating and building, and also fixings stuff has been my focus for as long as I can remember. My work history spans a lot more then tattooing. Working as a bread runner growing up, moving to the world of mechanics on cars and motorcycles, then bicycle frame welding as well. I’ve had many jobs, for as long as I can remember tattooing was the path I’ve wanted to take since I was a child. My father had multiple tattoos and I was obsessed with them growing up. I asked him when I was 5 or 6 how it worked and he explained, since then it’s been in the plan even if I veered off a few times.

For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to the art the comes from Japan. All types, from woodblocks to manga, brush painting scrolls, anime, etc. I don’t know why honestly, it’s just always stood out me. Maybe it comes from the hours of playing JRPG’s growing up, or being exposed to manga and anime a young age, either way I love it and I’m happy that it’s been my career focus in tattooing.

My apprenticeship started in 2013 under Kenzo Butler, for two years I learned how to tattoo, fix machines, setup stations, and also hygiene. Becoming a full time tattooed after my apprenticeship was one of the most important days of my life, after dedicating two years of my life and working 50-60 hour weeks I was finally ready. I’ve done many different styles of tattooing and I continue to. Mainly I focus on anime/manga fine line imagery but I also have a passion for large scale Japanese work as well! I also started building tattoo machines myself, from welding to wrapping coils, cutting springs, etc. It’s been a passion of mine and with my background in welding and machining I’ve kept at it.

If there’s anything else you would like to know ask me during your tattoo appointment!
